Re: Die ideale Vorbildlok für Z
Morgen
Da könnte man was machen.

Torsten,
"So in Etwa"
Michael

The KPEV G7.1, after the big war was present in many other European countries.
In Italy 17 of them arrived and were integrated in the Gr421 class (see scalaenne )
I had considered the model of this locomotive and I deemed that with a 615s motor the model appears doable although with the issue of marginal mass.
another possibility that I was studying was to have the motor in the tender feeding the wheels in the loco with a double cardan joint. This would have allowed the locomotive body (cabin and boiler) made of solid brass and hence have considerable mass.
Of course being an 8-wheeler is not an easy subject for a model maker in Z.

Re: Die ideale Vorbildlok für Z
It has negativ side effects. The tender wants to turn over. That's why it needs a decent weight.

Yes you are right, that is the effect I also expected.eXact Modellbau hat geschrieben: ↑Di 5. Mär 2024, 10:11 It has negative side effects. The tender wants to turn over. That's why it needs a decent weight.
The torque fed by the motor to the locomotive will have a reaction torque on the tender which will impart a roll motion.
Having said this, the extent of such torque needs to be seen: since the gear is on the locomotive, the torque reacted is just the one generated by the motor which is 19 times smaller than the torque at the locomotive wheels
In any case there are three ways the reaction torque effects can be mitigated:
1- as you say adding mass to the tender
2- establishing a roll-rigid (but articulated in yaw and pitch) link between the motor and the locomotive
3- using 2 counter rotating motors in parallel
the first is easy to implement, within the volumetric limits of the tender. As drawback, it will reduce the pulling force of the locomotive
the second is doable. besides the higher complexity I do not see disadvantages.
The third option is a theoretical possibility but with a major complexity in the gearing.
if I were to implement this locomotive I would try the second way.
