Hello friends,

After receiving a number of requests, I decided to add one more article to the list of my accessories available at 1zu220-shop.de – metal covers for Märklin coupler boxes. Märklin does not offer them as spare parts, so I decided to solve this problem on my own. Some years ago, once Märklin announced short couplers, I came up with idea to replace long couplers with new short ones in the most passenger and freight cars in my collection. It is a known fact that this tiny metal cover can often be damaged during disassembling the coupler. It can be annoying to the collector and it also decreases the value of the article.

For this, I designed my own replacement part. Important note: this time, I switched away from nickel silver and made these covers from medical grade stainless steel. They have the same thickness of 0.1 mm as original parts, but they are stronger and therefore less susceptible to damage. Covers come in sets of 10 pieces. They can be used for type Y25 trucks and many other types.

I would like to inform that covers for coupler boxes are finally in stock: https://www.1zu220-shop.de/Zmodell/Zube ... 46159.html

I would also like to provide some useful information regarding installation of these covers: for disassembling the coupler, use thin soldering tip heated up to 200-220 °C. In order to install coupler box covers, it is necessary to restore cylindrical form of three pins on the bottom of the coupler box that hold this cover.

Best regards,
Alex

Hi friends,

I added some small but useful accessories to the range of my products and I would like to provide detailed info about each of them.

This time, it is all about windows. Märklin does not like windows in Z scale. They were always skipping adding windows from the beginning of time - first edition of BR 218 was without windows at all, almost all passenger cars don't feature windows at the ends at all - newly developed restaurant car (forst introduced in Touristik train set) became the only unexpected exception from this weird rule. Most steam locomotives don't have any windows too. Transformer car, many small 2-axle cars - everything comes with black holes where windows should be.

I already started fixing this some time ago by developing window inserts for transformer car. Now I decided to go further - the next model that received prototypical windows is recently announced upgraded version of BR 78 steam locomotive. Now this interesting and very welcome model got even more prototypical look:

20221014_225245.jpg
20221014_225428.jpg

These tiny windows were produced on precise CNC cutter from 1.5 mm acrylic glass:
ZM-WG-002-1.jpg
Installation is very easy:

1. Carefully remove the locomotive body.
2. Apply a small drop of glue (for plastic either lasercut) to the base of the window inserts.
3. Carefully install them into the openings of the smallest side windows from inside using tweezers (the base should be pointed downwards).
4. Wait until the glue dries and reassemble the locomotive.
ZM-WG-002-5.jpg
I recommend using lasercut (PVA) glue due to the number of reasons: it cannot destroy plastic and paint coating. Even if something goes wrong, it can be easily removed and any time. Once it dries, it will hold these small parts very reliably.

Window sets for BR 78 steam locomotive are available here:
https://www.1zu220-shop.de/Zmodell/Zube ... 46272.html

Windows for Doppelstockwagen

I also developed another kind of window inserts - for double-deck passenger cars and control car. These windows are also made on CNC cutter from 1 mm acrylic glass. When I tried to fit these windows into the wagon for the first time, it became clear to me that it is possible to make them even more realistic by adding rubber bands around the windows - just like in real life. I developed very tiny parts for this and made them from photo-etched 0.1 mm nickel silver. Then I also airbrushed them with black paint:
20221021_022741.jpg
You can see how small they are indeed:
20221019_201829.jpg
I put these tiny metal parts onto the IC 2 passenger car in order to make a comparison with original rubber bands on side doors and windows:
20221019_204857.jpg
This is a window insert with attached window frame. I also made this picture for comparison:
20221019_205010.jpg

Attaching window frames was a very difficult and precise task that required a lot of skills and patience. I had to use only CA glue - the best suitable glue for this purpose, but also very risky. After some tryouts, I found a way how to pick up a small enough drop of glue - with the help of 0.3 mm wire which I dipped into the small drop of CA glue dropped on the small plastic bag.

Later I decided to add one more thing - to simplify installation of these windows by adding pieces of thin double-sided adhesive tape:
20221021_022451.jpg
20221021_022602.jpg

Along with making installation easier, it will help avoiding any damage of the car and/or windows with glue. And voila - here is a result. Just look how natural end doors look now:
20221021_021535.jpg
20221021_021649.jpg
20221021_022044.jpg

I decided to add more safety to the packaging and sealed each window insert into separate sachet - just like pills :)
20221022_005852.jpg
20221022_005905.jpg

I arranged these window inserts into two different variants: set of two windows for double-deck passenger cars and single window insert for double-deck control car. They are available here:

Window glazing set for bi-level passenger car (2 pieces):
https://www.1zu220-shop.de/Zmodell/Zube ... 46273.html

Window glazing for bi-level control car (1 piece):
https://www.1zu220-shop.de/Zmodell/Zube ... 46274.html

I already wrote this in another thread, but I think it is worth mentioning this here too: most of my articles (or in some cases, most important production steps like CNC milling, photo-etching and so on) are still being produced in Kiev, Ukraine - with invaluable help of my friends and colleagues who are still try to keep everything in order, despite constant shelling, frequent power outage and other signs of continuing disaster. Thus, buying most of my articles without any doubts helps them to stay at least a little bit safer, a little more confident.

Best regards,
Alex

Hi friends,

I have good news - despite frequent power shortages after never-stopping shelling of Kiev, I managed to produce there some articles that require UV-printing, such as load inserts for metallurgical cars and solar panels - they are available now again. Some other sold out articles were also replenished.

I also added one more small accessory - block of stacked wooden trunks:

20221104_235620.jpg
20221104_230059.jpg

It is available here:
https://www.1zu220-shop.de/Zmodell/Zube ... 46327.html

It also can be accompanied with this one:
https://www.1zu220-shop.de/Zmodell/Zube ... 45024.html

Together either separately, these small items can be a good addition for decorating wood processing facility; they can also be used as a separate loads.

Alex

Greetings to all,

I would like to introduce a small but quite unique addition to the range of my accessories - set of heavy-duty chains. They are made of 0.15 mm photo-etched CuNi19 alloy (variation of nickel silver alloy) and feature fine-scale details and very close to scale dimensions. Very high level of realism is achieved by combination of half-etched elements and ones with full thickness: horizontal chain links are half-etched and have openings in the center, while vertical ones have full thickness. Together with only 0.5 mm width, it gives an unbelievably realistic look. These chains are actually thinner than handrails and barriers on the most Märklin Z scale cars.

Chains are arranged into 10-piece sets and feature rings on the ends. The length of chains is 50 mm. Such length is limited by the fact of absence of cross supports which it would be quite difficult to cut away, given such small dimensions of chains, and also by the thickness of material:

1P6A3323.jpg
1P6A3325.jpg
Here is a sample of usage of these chains - for example, for fixing some kinds of loads on flatcars. The difference in level of details between chains and handrails is especially visible on these photos:

Hi friends,

I added new accessories to the lineup and I would like to introduce them here. One more Z scale locomotive got external equipment - it is possible now to enhance SJ RCx electric locomotives by Freudenreich with brake disks. The disks are made of 0.15 mm photo-etched CuNi19 alloy. Prototypical disks feature dots with variable sizes - I also implemented it in this small accessory. The disks come in 8-piece set, suitable for upgrading one locomotive:

1P6A3565.jpg

What is important - I developed and successfully applied new circular polishing technology that provides higher resulting quality and also more realistic look - the disks now show radial reflections (like on the walls of "Silberlinge" passenger cars). I even recorded a short video under the microscope to show it in more specific way:

Here is how the locomotive looks after upgrade:

Here are some photos of the prototype locomotive where the brake disks are visible very good:

The brake disks are available here:

One more accessory is the signboard with "ÖBB" logo of the Austrian Federal Railways. The size of the signboard is 24 x 14.7 mm (without frame):
1P6A3566.jpg
The sign is made of 0.3 mm photo-etched nickel silver with half-etched elements. It is airbrushed with white lacquer at the both sides and then printed using direct UV-printing technology. Information label that comes with the sign also features drilling template to make installation easier.

The signboard can be used for decorating railway station buildings by those who model Austrian layouts and dioramas. Here is a couple of samples where such logos can be seen in real life:
