Wenn der weite Weg nicht wäre, nur der Eintritt, sind 19.50 statt 16.00 in Mannheim ein sehr viel besseres Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis. Das Spoorwegmuseum ist alleine schon toll und sehr gepflegt und gut ausgestattet. Die Catering-Facilities sind viel besser.. Es gibt weniger, aber hochwertig einzukaufen. Überall wird auf hohem Niveau vorgeführt, was man ohne künstlerische Begabung nie so hinbekommen würde. Und es gibt keine Modulanlagen auf dem kleinsten gemeinsamen Nenner des jeweiligen Teams. Alle haben einen Blick und ein Hänchrn für das, was sie zeigen. Ob das intransparent ist, weiß ich nicht. Aber das Ergebnis ist gut.

Today I visited OnTraxs for the first time.
On the plus side:
1- location, the museum is rich and beautiful and it is in principle a very fitting environment for a model train show
2- 90% of the layouts on show were of excellent quality. As usual the layout presented by Loek Bronkhorst ( this time the "Rijk Van Nijmegen") was magnificent and it was alone worth the ticket
3- the few shops there had good stuff that one could buy

I was less impressed by
1- the organisation of the spaces: since it is a museum that is already well populated, space available for layouts was not a lot. The distribution of layouts seemed a bit chaotic
2- a lot of HO, little N and one single Z scale layout (which unlike publicised in the announcement "layouts ... never before been seen in the Netherlands" was at the Nederlandse Spoorweg Dagen in January). I have respect for any model making, but when I see what the wizards of Z can do in our tiny scale, well I feel that H0 layouts could be more realistic.
3- most layouts were the 'train in a box' type with quite a few boxes so small that made me feel claustrophobic.

Comparison with other model fair of the past might not be fair as today we are in dearer times, but I must say that I have seen in Utrecht better fairs in terms of quantity, quality and international participation.
Regrettably since corona, both RAIL and EUROSPOOR are not being organised regularly so better OnTraxs than nothing.

Ein schöner Tag geht zu Ende...das Spoorweg Museum war auf jeden Fall die Reise wert.
Die Parkpreise außerhalb des Museums sind happig, aber ein Knöllchen zu riskieren noch verrückter. Die Ausstellung mit Exponaten und Modellbahnen ist eine wunderbare Mischung.
Alle Spurweiten sind vertreten, Spur Z hält Dietmar Allekotte mit Waterkant hoch, in unmittelbarer Nähe die Anlage Vernon CA, wo Z nur als Gartenbahn eingesetzt wird.
Auf der Anlage Rijk van Nijmegen wird dadurch eine unglaubliche Anlagentiefe simuliert, indem drei Spurweiten mit den gleichen Darstellungen des Zuges hintereinander sichtbar werden.
H0 im Vordergrund, N in der Mitte und Z weiter hinten. Ganz tolle Atmosphäre. Nen paar Bilder habe ich auch gemacht, sind allerdings noch auf dem Chip der Kamera.
Stelle ich gegen Ende der Woche ein.

War da ganz hinten nicht eher noch T? Und dann die - verschiedenen - Züge, die sich auf der Brücke am Horizont sogar begegnet sind, die waren ja noch kleiner und liefen wohl als Silhouetten wie in den Spielautomaten von 1970, wo man im Urlaub für 100 Lire Torpedos auf Schiffe schießen konnte. Und der Zeppelin, der aus den Wolken im Hintergrund auftauchte und über den Himmel flog, bis er in einer anderen Wolke verschwand. Alles zu fahrenden Autos und fahrenden Schiffen auf dem Fluss.

Der kreisende Vogel, die Bergmänner im Aufzug und was sich sonst noch bewegte war dann woanders.

The train on the bridge, as the boat on the canal, the vehicles on the road and the zeppelin in the sky are all belt driven.
Loek Bronkhorst is a master of belts.

Yes. This was also one of my favorits in Dortmund last year. Hamburg was the other one.

Die ersten drei Bilder - genial! Wie ist das denn gemacht? Verkleinert sich der Maßstab nach hinten?

Yes it does. In the front is H0, and on the second track visible it is N and the rest shrinks in scale. The layout is probably 1.5 deep but gives an impression of great depth and vastness.
